Edel Figueredo Cruz  was born in Havana, Cuba in 1973. He attended the School of Bernardo Domínguez, from 2003-2006, along with the José Antonio Díaz Pelaez Center for Visual Arts (2006-2008), The Onelio Jorge Cardoso’s Center of Literary Formation (2006) and Dulce María Loynáz’s Center for the Creation of Literature (2007-2009). In 2000, Cruz joined the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC), where he remained a member until 2008.

Cruz's artwork is very conceptual and philosophical. Some of it also portrays a fantastical nature. His mediums include paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, photography and video art. While he is most recognized for his work on documentaries and theatrical performances, over the past few years he has redirected his focus to creating sculptures and installations. Many of his installations are collaborations with his longtime friend, artist Maikel Alfonso Lazcano.
